head injuries and two year olds

wow!  today was a different day.....
it started out as a regular monday, but quickly turned complicated when Sister fell out of her highchair around 11:00 am.
of course, she cries a bunch.....
i thought she looked like she was walking funny, but wasn't sure if i was just making it seem worse than it was...(you know moms, we can always worry the worst possible scenario).
i call the pediatrician and they say as long as she isn't vomiting or going unconscious, we should just watch her and let her nap and go about the day as normal.

normal, shmormal.......the girl would not stop crying (which is very unlike my tough little babe)
she finally falls asleep on my lap and i put her on the couch to keep a close eye

when she wakes up,....
it is more crying and wanting to be held (again....very unlike her).
so, i call the pediatrician again.....and the nurse says we should probably go the ER.
jon comes home from work (during the busiest week of his life---ok, maybe a bit dramatic, but not totally),
and she seems to perk up....
agrees to eat some ice cream (she didn't eat any lunch),
and proceeds to run to the kitchen......
to spew all over the kitchen floor................................

now we are worried (you know head trama and vomitting are not good signs---i'm still not sure why, but they aren't)
so we rush to the ER.........
and wait.....
and wait.....
and finally get called back to wait some more......
of course during all the waiting she is walking around, playing with toys, and smiling like nothing's wrong--of course...
long story, short(er), they did a CT scan and everything was ok.
she has a concussion,
and the doctor says she will be fine (and that she's her favorite patient for the day)
and we are truly thankful our little beauty is sleeping soundly in her bed as i type this post.
thank you, Jesus!
yes, that's the "puke potty" as jon likes to call it and yes, she's sleeping with it~
here's to praying she's smiling and acting like herself tomorrow morn!

lil' Brother: 6 months old--2 months post op

it's cliche'
and always made my eyes roll
that is, until i had kids of my own.

"they grow up too fast!"

i honestly CANNOT believe that my littlest punkin' is 1/2 a year old already.
i feel like it was just yesterday that i was lying in that operation room.
before he was born, i wasn't sure i believed how parents say they love every child as much as the first,
but let me tell you...
it's all true!

this guy has been through a bunch of stuff already in his short 6 months,
but he's tough
and none the worse for any of it.

he's rolling ("rollin' like a river"---sorry) all over the house and
pushing up like he wants to crawl any day.
he's sleeping through the night 6:30ish-6:30!
and is just the best addition to our little family.

we love you, Roggie!

milestone monday--plan a family summer vacation

~if you are new to milestones & memories, each monday i do a post that updates you on how we are doing at accomplishing our family goals/milestones.  here's a complete list if you are interested.  thanks for stopping by~

yippeeee!

if you couldn't tell.....
i'm a bit excited.
because we are indeed taking a week-long family vacation this summer!
it was all very touch and go there for awhile.
we thought we would just do a couple of long weekend trips close to home,
because of Jon's summer session, etc.
but as of today, we are officially going to our favorite place for a whole week, and with some of our favorite people, nonetheless!

there will be lots of this going on with these two

besties

want to know the wierdest part of it all?
i'm actually super excited to start to plan the menu and see how low i can get our grocery budget (i know, it's a sickness, i think).  last year, my family went to the beach (5 families/12 people--5 of which are good-eating men) and each family only spent around 80 dollars on groceries for the week!

our house is 700 feet from the beach, has a private pool, hot tub, and separate rooms for the kiddos!

i am so looking forward to a relaxing, calm, cool, and collected week away with our family (now, let's just pray jon's work doesn't rev up just in time for him to not be able to go---eeek!)

on another milestone note:
i hate to put this in writing, because i know it will jinx it, but.....
i.....think.......Sister...............might.....be.......
POTTY TRAINED!
(ok, or at least close to it with the numero uno~)

i started with undies only on friday at 4:00pm and did it all the time we were home this weekend.
she only peed on the floor twice and all of the rest of the times were successful (she even pooed once!).
i don't know about you, but that's a huge milestone for me that i have been dreading to teach since day 1.
we'll keep trucking along with it and let you know how it's going.

there's been lots of reading on the pot,

 elmo's potty time watching,

and smiley face-drawing.
(i give her a small one for pee and a big one for poo.  she also gets a chocolate chip!)

any words of wisdom from you mommies who have potty training down to an art?  i'd love to hear your suggestions!

first foods

"Robro" had his first stab at real "food" today (aka a little rice cereal with a lot of milk)--it's basically soup, people--not that exciting, but for a momma it's cause for celebration!

i'm celebrating his food-eating accomplishments because:
1.  maybe he'll start sleeping through the night (even though all the docs say it's a myth)
2.  he's growing up (it's a milestone, you know)--i'm celebrating and hating this at the same time
3.  he's just too cute with food all over those chubbo cheeks!

here's a comparison of Sister and Brother eating their first foods:

they must be related,....they both give me that "i'm over it, mom" look.

and just a few more for the cute factor....

i love recording these little memories......
and especially like recording them with my new camera!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yes, the hubs surprised me with an early mother's day gift.....a nikon d3100 with two lenses!
i have no idea how it works, but even on "auto" it takes a million times better pictures than the old "point and shoot."

here's a few to prove my point:

OLD Camera:

NEW Camera:

ahhh, can't wait to start figuring out this photography thing.

thanks husband!  love you...

{all you seasoned photographers, any suggestions on where to start with learning how to use my fancy shmancy camera?  leave a comment...i need all the help i can get!}

3.24.2011

just can't help myself

i'm usually not the braggin" type,
but i have to share these
squeezable,
loveable,
kissable,
snuggable (isn't this a country song?)
little kiddos with you all!

enjoy :)

and where did i get this adorable hat, you ask?  it is from hannah's amazing etsy shop, ummashin's goodies.  check it out for yourself.  she has some gorgeous girl's hats and hair accessories as well.

ps.  he's doing great,......except for the not sleeping so well.  i guess i can't complain, because he's been a wonderful sleeping most of his life.

seriously, what 2 year old holds their paintbrush/pencil that well?

happy thursday!
